Downhearted

Blues rock tune about being down, sad. As defined in Websters dictionary, "discouraged; in low spirits" There is also a desperate plea for some kind of salvation with references to God and Jesus, and the symbolism of the river, since that is where historically people go to get baptized "saved", or to meditate and send their problems on through the ever infinite movement of water. There was a thought of BB King's "3 O'clock in the Morning" when writing this tune. Less of a "you done me wrong" theme and more of a "I'm throwing my hands up" theme. A commentary derived from the current times, and the common theme we all share of going low to figure out how to get back up again.

Only Child

This song is written about and inspired by my immediate family. My mother, late father, and my brother. It represents the role each of us plays in our individual lives as we grow and absorb everyone and everything around us. In this phase of my life, I have grown to respect my family and all of those I have been lucky or unlucky enough to cross paths with, in a new way. I understand the roads we all travel are different and that I don't fit into any specific pocket of influence, rather I am "somewhere in between" all of the personalities, spirits, and souls. This realization provides a window to the radical empathy we all have the ability to feel for one another.
